My First Blowout| An Afternoon at Laurel Salon

Last month I had the opportunity to get pampered at the newly opened Laurel Salon in Okemos. From the minute I walked in, it was clear that owners Stephanie and Janae have opened a really beautiful space. Bright white walls, a warm cup of tea, and smiling faces were all waiting for me on the other side of the door. I booked two treatments during my appointment – a facial and blowout, my first ever blowout.

First up was the facial with Mary using Naturopathica products — which are all made from renewable resources in an environmentally-friendly way, and no animal testing! (plus they smell really good, and when you put something on your face — that matters.)

My favorite part of the facial was the steam she used to open up my pores. Then she took a really bright light and got in there to look at them. Falling asleep in my make up weekly hasn’t done too much damage apparently… It’s hard not to relax in the facial room, with the aroma therapy, dim lights, and calming music.

Next – a blowout with Ellyce – which is a deep wash and hard press or curl. Full disclosure : I wear a partial sew-in with hair left out at the top. I let her know ahead of time that she’d have to deal with the two different textures in my hair – and it wasn’t a problem when I got there. She gave me some really nice curls, and despite not having a pomade or gel strong enough to lay my edges down, I was pretty happy with the finished product – and smoothed down the edges of my hair with my trusty edge control when I got home.

Another treatment that Laurel Salon offers that I want to go back and try is the reflexology – which was described to me as a full body massage through your feet. I don’t know about you, but it sounds like heaven to me!

I vlogged my appointment from start to finish – click here to watch the short video on Instagram!

I want to thank the entire Laurel team for taking such good care of me, and for their amazing work!
