Why I Buy Nearby

Last week I partnered up with the Michigan Retailers Association to host a private shopping event at Runway Lansing. I remember being assigned a story on the grand opening of The Runway a few years ago, and it’s crazy to think how it’s grown so fast. Two of it’s advisory board members are on Project Runway this season, and it’s helped several emerging designers get access to the tools and space needed to grow their brands. It was after I hosted the Belle Row Boutique fashion show there last year that I knew I had to reserve it for my little party!!

I first met Devon Bradley, founder of Belle Row Boutique, in a work setting – I’m a reporter and she worked in PR.  I was covering an event that Devon was working and she mentioned that she owned a boutique in East Lansing and that I should stop by. It’s been one of my favorite places to throw my money at ever since. Devon has been so supportive and helpful with my blogging journey that it was a natural choice to tap her and her amazing eye for fashion to help me out with this project. She has this simple, girly but chill vibe to the clothing she stocks in her store and I instantly connected to it. Devon just recently decided to dedicate her full attention to her now fully online business and follow her dreams, and I couldn’t be more excited for her! It’s people like her who you support when you choose to shop local. That’s the entire idea by Michigan’s #BuyNearby Weekend in October! Check this out: Buy Nearby Weekend on October 7th & 8th, and you have until then to enter the contest to win a $500 gift card. All you have to do to enter is snap a picture of you shopping at a small business and post it with the hashtag #BuyNearbyMI and BOOM you’re entered. SO EASY.

My bestfriend ended up finding the perfect dress for her Vegas wedding weekend at my Belle Row shopping party, and I’m sure you’ll find something perfect and meet some awesome people when go you out and explore the little shops in your town!
