What a year. The first 3/4 moved at a snails pace and the last quarter whipped by in a blur.
Scrolling social media has been a trigger for nostalgia this week, so I decided to join in and hit the rewind button on 2016.
Here we go:
I think I’m going to remember 2016 as a year for professional and personal growth. This was my first full year of being a morning anchor, which has been an amazing, tiring, awesome adventure where there’s always something to learn. It was also the year that I really discovered blogging. Like, really took the time to learn about the medium, attempt to build an online community, and become a more consistent content creator. Woo!
I had no idea what I was doing in Oct. 2015 when I started this… I just knew that I was finding it hard to be Mariah and be a “news lady”…or maybe I just didn’t know who I wanted that person to be.
Basically, I didn’t know how to social media and “share” both professionally and personally, and blogging has really helped me figure all that stuff out. It’s also a super awesome creative hobby. I didn’t want work to consume me, to become the only thing I did.
These conversations were starting to happen:
Friend/Family Member : “so what are you up to lately?”
Me: “working and sleeping.”
That’s an exaggeration, but it was almost to that point. News is a lifestyle, the “9-to-5” saying doesn’t really apply to this industry so it’s easy to just get lost in it.
Making other blogger friends has been great for learning new tips, and meeting new people who also enjoy talking about blogging, because when you first get started it’s all you’re going to want to talk about… Remember that when your friend’s eyes start to glaze over when you get into some deep SEO and Google Rank chatter.
I have some really exciting projects I’m working on for next year, and I can’t wait to share with you! Like a trip out to California for camping & Coachella in April!
Very quickly about this look: my parents got me this coat for Christmas and I wear it like a uniform now. It’s so warm and the pockets are really big. I also wear this hat everyday because it’s big enough to shove all of my hair into it on lazy days… so I’ve pretty much looked like this every day since Christmas morning. #NoRegrets I bought the graphic skirt from Top Shop a couple of years ago. The midi length paired with thicker tights from Berkshire Legwear kept me relatively warm.
Have a Happy New Year everyone! Celebrate responsibly 😉
